Leveraging the benefits of nature’s existing strengths, Mirum is made with a closed-loop system that is free of petroleum-based plastics and produces zero waste.
LONDON (PRWEB) September 13, 2019
Mirum™, a high-performance plant-based material with limitless possibilities, is being debuted at London Fashion Week as one of the materials in FELDER FELDER’s latest sustainable collection. This year, the high fashion brand will focus on eco-friendly materials with a cutting-edge aesthetic.
Mirum, the plant-based leather alternative, was unveiled earlier this year.
Leveraging the benefits of nature’s existing strengths, Mirum is made with a closed-loop system that is free of petroleum-based plastics and produces zero waste. Their raw inputs are natural, biodegradable polymers and finished materials are never coated in polyurethane, unlocking the next era of sustainable design that does not compromise on quality.
Mirum is produced by Natural Fiber Welding, Inc., (NFW) a current participant in the Fashion for Good Scaling program and a company funded by and spun out of the Department of Defense.
“Mirum is the first plant-based material that doesn’t rely on plastic resins, glues, or coatings. We’ve engineered a high-performance material using nothing but the strength and diversity of plant-based polymers,” said Luke Haverhals, Founder of NFW who produces Mirum. “We believe that renewable resources give us everything we need to sustain life on earth and live fully – with beautiful consumer products that enhance our lives and our wellbeing. We’re excited to be partnering with a brand that shares this ethos and embodies it in full.”
Through this partnership and the collection as a whole, FELDER FELDER helps prove that through the power of design combined with innovative technologies, the fashion industry has an opportunity to create a positive impact in society and build a more sustainable future.
After dedicating their brand to sustainable materials several years ago, they have become a force for fashion without compromise on beauty, eco-friendliness, and quality.
“Mirum is exciting to us because it’s the ultimate playground. The material is infinitely tunable to our aesthetic, can perform in a variety of conditions, and has a simply beautiful look and feel,” said Daniela Felder of FELDER FELDER. “We were able to design a glamorous garment that contained absolutely zero plastic. We believe the fashion industry has a responsibility to give back to the earth that provides us with the resources we use daily to live beautifully.”
“We love the idea of taking new materials and turning them into something that is both glamorous and sustainable, without compromise,” continued Annette Felder of the Felder sisters behind the brand. “There is no reason that we cannot create a world in which we build beautiful things not at the expense of our Earth. That is what we hope to show with our line today.”
Other sustainably developed materials featured in the collection include:
- Sustainable vegan lace, made of organic GOTS certified cotton and vegan (ahimsa) silk.
- Sustainable vegan silk-like material, made of wood pulp.
- Sustainable velvet devore, made of recycled velvet and organic cotton.
