Festiva Employees Take Time to Teach Children Life Skills
Asheville, N.C. (PRWEB) September 14, 2015 -- Last week, a handful of employees from Festiva, the developer for the Festiva hotel and resort properties and the Festiva Adventure Club, spent the day at Hominy Valley Elementary School helping DIME-a-Saurus teach kindergarten students about money. DIME-a-Saurus is a dinosaur character developed by OnTrack WNC to teach children in kindergarten through second grades about money, savings and the difference between needs and wants.
States Dessie Laster, Chief Financial Officer of Festiva: “Especially in today’s society where more people than ever are living paycheck to paycheck, cost of living continues to increase, and the cost of preparing oneself for a better life through education comes at such a staggering and skyrocketing cost, it’s so incredibly important to start learning to manage your money and be responsible with how you spend, from a young age.”
Festiva is a regular participant in Hands On Asheville-Buncombe’s Day of Caring initiative. Last year, volunteers representing the company spent a day packing almost 100 boxes of food for distribution to the local underprivileged at Manna Food Bank. The year prior, Festiva volunteers donated time at ABCCM’s Steadfast House.
Butch Patrick, President and CEO of Festiva: “All of us [at Festiva] are passionate about our communities, and we’re proud to have the opportunity to partner with this incredible organization that has such a positive impact on the Asheville community!”
Since 2006 Festiva has supplemented its volunteer hours with a flexible endowment fund developed to provide permanent charitable resources for all the communities where Festiva employees live and work. The primary focus of the Festiva Charitable Fund is to promote education for youth and to assist in efforts to eliminate poverty in its communities. The charitable fund is also used to respond to extraordinary global events.
