The annual Golden Year Reunion June 14-16, 2023, honoring the classes of 1973, '68, '63, '58 and '53. All alumni from '73 and before are also welcome to attend.
HENDERSON, Tenn., May 25, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Freed-Hardeman University's Office of Alumni Engagement will host the annual Golden Year Reunion June 14-16, 2023, honoring the classes of 1973, '68, '63, '58 and '53. All alumni from '73 and before are also welcome to attend.
Planned activities include singing in Chapel Hall, devotionals, tours of the recently renovated Paul Gray Hall, a lecture by Dr. Jonathan Moore on biblical archaeology, and special times to share memories. "Of course, some of the best times are the unplanned activities," FHU Director of Alumni Engagement Chris Ramey said. "Our alumni have the best stories to tell, and they love sharing their memories."
Moore is a podiatric physician and founder, owner and managing partner of Cumberland
Foot and Ankle Center in Somerset, Kentucky. He and his wife Kim have made a substantial gift to the FHU College of Biblical Studies to assist Bible majors in studying biblical archaeology. This year a group is helping with excavation at Shiloh, looking for evidence of the tabernacle.
Devotional lessons will be shared by members of the Class of 1973: Dr. Steven Guy, minister of the Myrtle Beach Church of Christ in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; John W. DeBerry, former Tennessee state representative and now senior advisor to Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Memphis, Tennessee; and Dr. John Dodd, owner of Dodd Eye Clinic in Corinth, Mississippi.
A bonus activity is planned for those who would like to participate. A day trip to Tupelo, Mississippi, is scheduled for Wednesday morning. Rich in Civil War history, Tupelo is also the birthplace of Elvis Presley. A riding tour of the city will include a stop at Tupelo Hardware where the King of Rock and Roll bought his first guitar, the museum at his birthplace and the one-room church he attended as a child. Alumna Debby Gibbs ('69) will conduct the tour.
FHU President David R. Shannon expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming Golden Year Reunion, stating, "FHU has a rich history, and our alumni are a vital part of that story. We are thrilled to welcome home our Golden Year classes and celebrate their legacy. This event is an excellent opportunity for our alumni to reconnect with each other and with the university."
