HOLBROOK, N.Y., Sept. 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- FiberTrap, a revolutionary eco-friendly micro-technology company out of Holbrook, NY, has found a way to combat the worldwide bed bug epidemic, and is now officially open for business. The journey began with the late Glen Nelson's Long Island based real estate company, 'The Matrix Group', after a recurring bed bug issue plagued a New Jersey apartment building. Nelson met with Kevin McAllister, a business associate, to create a new green method for real estate owners and apartment renters to protect their multi-unit structures from becoming plagued with the harsh realities of bed bugs before anyone even knew they were present.
Dr. Harry Shan He, who started as a research assistant and is now the Vice President of FiberTrap, took to the lab with his sights on completing Nelson and McAllister's concept. The live bed bugs were sent in for testing by Louis Sorkin, esteemed Entomologist at the renowned American Museum of Natural History in New York, New York. Dr. He began developing nanotechnology to electro-spin fibers that, after many tests, proved efficacious in trapping the insect.
"We specifically designed the mechanical strength of the fiber network such that it can entangle the bed bugs' legs without breaking or flowing," Said Dr. He, "Without the ability to move, they struggle and eventually die of exhaustion." The product appeals to the sight, smell, and touch of the pest. The traps' structure, fibers, and pheromone lure (a proprietary blend of non-toxic chemicals that are organically produced by the bugs themselves) make this technology unrivaled. Additionally, by tweaking the electro-spinning mechanism, the fiber can trap cockroaches as well as other insects, something the company plans to expand on in the future.
"I'm just happy we can give families confidence knowing that building management takes the matter seriously, allowing them the good night's sleep they deserve," said Chris Nelson, President and CEO of the private company, "We offer a product that gives property owners a proactive approach to bed bugs as opposed to the usual reactive and expensive measures they're forced to take which, in most cases, includes families being victimized by these atrocious pests. Our traps are designed to minimize infestations and give owners the ability to eradicate the bugs before they spread throughout their building, harming families as well as their business."
FiberTrap CEO Chris Nelson has donated $5,000 worth of bed bug traps to Boots On The Ground, a Ronkonkoma NY Veterans Support Organization (Boots On The Ground is a 501c19 non-profit that doesn't take government grants or have corporate sponsors), to be sent overseas for army soldiers and is currently coordinating another $10,000 of product to be donated to the organization. "We're protected by the bravest and the most courageous people in the world who are working to keep our families safe 18 hours a day, the least we can do is help them get an uninterrupted 6 hours of sleep." Said Nelson.
