The fifth annual Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) of Omaha Golf Classic, sponsored by Meridian Clinical Research, is returning to Tiburon Golf Club on September 14. This year's sold-out event will raise over $175,000 for the MDA Nebraska Summer Camp and congenital muscular dystrophy research.
OMAHA, Neb., Sept. 6, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The fifth annual Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) of Omaha Golf Classic, sponsored by Meridian Clinical Research, is returning to Tiburon Golf Club on September 14. This year's sold-out event will raise over $175,000 for the MDA Nebraska Summer Camp and congenital muscular dystrophy research.
Businesses from the greater Omaha community and surrounding areas have helped the event grow year-over-year. Since the inaugural MDA Omaha Golf Classic in 2018 Meridian has led the event to raise more than $275,000 for the MDA. In its first year the event raised $20,000 with 44 participating golfers. This year, with over 200 golfers participating, and the generous support of corporate sponsorships, the event aims to add an additional $175,000 to the five-year total.
Held annually in September (Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Month), the MDA Omaha Golf Classic not only provides funding for the MDA, but raises awareness for this group of diseases that causes progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. Muscular dystrophy is estimated to affect about 250,000 people in the U.S., across all ages, races, and genders.
As presenting sponsor for the past five years, Meridian provides the staff and resources to host the event. Nicole Osborn, Meridian Founder and CEO, has a special tie to the MDA — her son, Sam Osborn, was a frequent attendee of MDA events, including the yearly MDA summer camp. Sam passed away on June 1, 2022, at the age of 17 due to complications caused by congenital muscular dystrophy. This year's event will be held in loving memory of Sam and will help raise funds to support the MDA and the events he enjoyed attending with other children and families fighting muscular dystrophy.
This event is one of many charitable causes Meridian supports annually as part of its novel "Strength In Numbers" employee bonus program. The program ties annual bonuses and performance metrics to a charitable giving budget. Meridian has donated almost $2.4 million to its communities, local fundraisers, and charitable organizations since 1999. The company's charitable giving goal for 2022 is $750,000.
While the event is sold-out, the MDA is still gratefully accepting donations to further the impact of the Golf Classic. To donate, or to learn more about this event, sponsors, and Sam, visit mcrmed.com/golf.
Please let us know if Meridian can provide any further information about this event and its cause.
If helpful, we can arrange an interview with a Meridian representative at the event, or via phone or Zoom prior.
