Fig Tree Gallery News Release for Marilyn Prescott's April Solo Exhibit
April ArtHop-Artist Marilyn Prescott Presents Witnesses and Ghosts
FRESNO, Calif., March 15, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On ArtHop Thursday, April 4, 2019, a reception for Marilyn Prescott's solo exhibit, Witnesses and Ghosts, will be held from 5-8 pm, at Fig Tree Gallery, 644 Van Ness Ave, Fresno, CA.
Witnesses and Ghosts comprises 22 new paintings, accompanied by wall-mounted text, that provokes viewers to consider their own reactions to the artist's deep despair over the state of the nation and global culture. For those who have enjoyed Prescott's colorful, impressionist paintings of area wetlands, trees and waterways, this show may be a jarring departure. In the words of a recent reviewer: If paintings could scream, one might hear the unsentimental cacophony of life and death as birds decay alone, on a sidewalk. Fires rage. Roots are exposed. Female figures, some pregnant, witness the world collapse with heart-wrenching consequences. White ghosts descend freeze-frame through the picture plane. Indifference and agony aside, Prescott offers glimmers of hope pointing toward life's regenerative powers and stubborn refusal to succumb to annihilation.
