Filing Deadline Looms as Candidates Scramble For Place on Ballot
Austin, TX (PRWEB) November 29, 2013 -- Though the weather is colder and the holiday season is on the mind of most people, politics is in the air again as the candidate filing deadline of December 9th approaches. Anyone who wishes to be on the 2014 primary ballot must file by 6:00 P.M. on this day. This includes not only all local elected offices at the county level, but also applications for all precinct chairs in the county as well. The precinct chair position is available for those wishing to be in charge of all people affiliated with a party within their precinct, and it is free to file for this place, provided that one lives and is a registered voter in the designated precinct.
The Travis County Republican Party will be open each weekday from 10am – 6pm until the filing deadline to accept filings. Detailed filing documents may be obtained from the Texas Secretary of State's website, along with instructions, and guidelines. There was a rush of filings on November 9th, when the filing period opened, and it is anticipated that December 9th will be a busy day as well. The Travis County Republican Party hopes that anyone wishing to file will do so in the next ten days, to avoid the crowds, as well as any last minute complications.
"Many people have already filed, but there are a number of precinct chair positions open and uncontested," states Vik Vad, Outreach Director for TCRP. "It is our hope to fill these seats with a diverse group of people from every corner of our county, so that all demographics get representation in party affairs." Vad encourages anyone interested in participating to ask questions, gather information, and file if they are ready to take on this responsibility. He feels that it is grassroots democracy in its purest sense, true government "of the people, by the people, for the people."
