Finally, a Practical Solution to "One-Touch" Acoustic Drum Tuning
San Jose, California (PRWEB) December 20, 2013 -- As most any drummer can attest to, achieving the desired tuning of acoustic drums has always been a royal pain in the throne. Varying drumhead tension by adjusting multiple tension rods around the drumhead’s periphery requires a skilled ear and a lot of time. The Acoustic Drum Tuner allows drummers of all levels, from novice to professional, to quickly and accurately tune an acoustic drum to the desired pitch and timbre. Many devices attempting to achieve this long-needed utility have been introduced over the decades, but none have proven commercially viable since they either detract from the drum’s acoustics, are unsightly, or simply impractical.
This one is markedly different. The mechanism, comprising an assembly of rings located between the end of the drum shell and the underside of the drumhead, maintains the familiar “look” of acoustic drums by working in conjunction with conventional tension rods and tuning lugs. With a single turn of a drum key, the mechanism expands or contracts along the drum’s axis, uniformly varying the drumhead tension as desired.
The device is the brain child of Mr. Steven Richards, a career aerospace design engineer and avid amateur drummer. His invention is the result of many years of considering the problem, developing different designs, and building and evaluating prototypes. Mr. Richards has succeeded in finding an ingeniously simple, elegant solution, and was awarded U.S. Patent 8,404,957 in March, 2013. He is partnering with Patents2Market, LLC to market and commercialize what is likely to become a new industry standard.
The Acoustic Drum Tuner is available for manufacturing rights under license agreement. A professional prototype is available for evaluation. For more information please contact us at info(at)patents2market(dot)com, or 408-559-5000.
