Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) March 27, 2015 -- The Mission of Find The Children, founded in 1983 by Linda Otto, is very simple: keep children safe! The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the addtional of new staff to delivery to the In-School Child Safety Program to an ever increasing number of schools in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Rora Jones, who was appointed as Executive Director just a year ago, has also been able to double the organization's cash reserves, due in part to grants from the Rite Aid KidCents program and the on-going support from the CarsForChildren car donation program.
According to Rora, “Over the past few years, we have focused on educating more children in various grade levels by expanding our safety programs to include Preschool through middle school. Our Child Safety Programs are delivered free of charge to schools throughout Los Angeles County, with each presentation tailored to the age of the audience. For example, the program for pre-K children uses puppets to bring home the message that children must avoid contact with strangers. The teen program stresses Internet Safety, and the importance of not sharing personal information online.”
Find The Children works closely with law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, in the recovery of missing children. FTC also works with ICAN (Inter-agency Council of Child Abuse and Neglect) in response to potential cases of child abuse. Services offered include coordination of therapy in health centers specifically chosen to assist with recovered or abused children.
“Oddly,” Rora says, “one issue we’re faced with is finding more schools willing to set aside 20-30 minutes for our presentation. The schools have been tasked with meeting very stringent performance goals, and they’re sometimes concerned about taking time away from their academic programs. While we appreciate their situation, it’s very important that the issues surrounding child safety are recognized by teachers and others working with young students. And it’s even more important for safety tips that can literally save a child’s life to be taught at every level.”
