ATLANTA, March 5, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- After an EF-1 tornado, with winds up to 105 mph, destroyed the Cottonwood Apartments, an approximately 555-unit apartment complex in Memphis, TN at the end of 2019, the local FirstKey Homes Memphis stepped in to help many of the 300 displaced residents find homes.
Shortly following initial storm recovery efforts, that impacted its own residents, FirstKey Homes contacted The American Red Cross and Leasing Angels, Inc., to help with the post-storm housing efforts. Leasing Angels is a real estate services firm contracted by the Shelby County Community Services Agency located in Memphis, Tennessee. With support from the Shelby County Housing Department, FirstKey Homes Memphis and Leasing Angels were able to assist displaced renters in relocating to available FirstKey Homes.
"I think our business is already a positive contribution to the economy and the community at large as we help people achieve a basic human need—to find quality housing," says Cashona Rinehart, district operations director at FirstKey Homes Memphis. "But when you are assisting with providing someone a new start, after a traumatic event, it makes what we do even greater and gives it an even stronger purpose."
