The preparation for this complex project began in 2020 as M&T Bank began to build out their new Tech Hub at Seneca One in downtown Buffalo, NY. This building remains the tallest privately-owned building in the state outside of New York City, representing 330,000-square feet of prime office space. It has since become a driving force for the city's growing tech ecosystem and is considered by collective leaders to be an asset for the entire community.
The construction of the signage began in January, 2021, with installation plans hinging on the unpredictable Buffalo winter. Fortunately, the weather cooperated and the first elevations of the building began to illuminate the Buffalo skyline in April, 2021. The challenges were many, from the transportation of 28 individual letters each up to 12' in height and weighing more than 600 pounds. Each letter was carefully winched to the roof and installed with custom hardware engineered to withstand the whipping winds that prevail off the shores of Lake Erie.
The video produced and shared via Flexlume's YouTube channel uses a combination of drone footage and stills to chronicle the process from start to finish. Combined with interview of the key executives at Flexlume and representatives of M&T Bank, the video culminates with breathtaking images of the finished product, both day and night. Today, and for many years to come this signage is expected to be a beacon to entrepreneurs across the Buffalo skyline.
