State investment gives emergency clinicians protocols, precision medication dosing and barcode medication verification for patients of all ages
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Sept. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Florida Department of Health is expanding its partnership with Handtevy to make Handtevy Mobile available to eligible hospital emergency departments and EMS agencies statewide. Clinicians get immediate access to patient-specific medication information and clinical guidance during time-sensitive emergencies.
The statewide expansion builds on the program's success in Florida's rural communities. Participating organizations receive Handtevy Mobile, training, and equipment at no cost through state funding.
The expansion includes ScanSafe™, Handtevy's emergency barcode medication verification technology. It lets clinicians scan a medication at the point of care and confirm the drug and concentration against patient-specific information in Handtevy Mobile, even before an order exists in the EHR.

Handtevy Mobile gives clinicians immediate access to their organization's approved protocols or guidelines and patient-specific medication information for adult and pediatric patients in high-pressure environments.

For EMS agencies and hospital emergency departments, Handtevy Mobile is configured to each organization's own medical-director-approved protocols, formulary, and equipment, and it delivers patient-specific dosing and medication safety tools at the point of care.
The timing is significant. Florida's Health Care Patient Protection Act (CS/HB 355), effective July 1, 2026, requires every hospital emergency department to meet new pediatric readiness standards, including weight-based medication dosing policies and staff training. According to the Florida House bill analysis, only 18 of the state's roughly 350 hospitals were previously recognized as pediatric-ready.
Handtevy's impact is backed by peer-reviewed research. A study published in Prehospital Emergency Care (Dorsett et al., 2026) found 97% pediatric dosing accuracy among clinicians using Handtevy, the highest rate reported in the prehospital literature to date.
