SAN DIEGO, July 23, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Florida International University (FIU) has selected Portfolium's Student Success platform and BadgeLink technology to provide 56,000+ students with the ability to earn digital badges for competencies gained in the classroom and learning pathways then display those credentials in a lifelong ePortfolio searchable by employers.
FIU plans to utilize Portfolium's BadgeLink to provide students with the ability to display their validated skills and achievements in a portable and accessible ePortfolio by using digital badges. These badges will be issued with fully-transparent metadata and tied to curricular and co-curricular assessment. Through fully customizable pathways, students and educators will be able to track learning progress in personalized journeys that can directly guide a student from the classroom into a career.
"As an active current user of Portfolium's ePortfolios, we foresee the expansion as an answer to bridging the gap between Academic Affairs and Career Services and centralizing the education-to-workforce student pathway," says Bridgette Cram, Director of Academic Programs and Partnerships at FIU. "BadgeLink will give our students a leg up on the competition when they enter the workforce, prepared to talk about and display their competencies confidently."
As the earliest adopter of Portfolium's Student Success platform in Florida, and one of the ten largest institutions in the country, FIU plans to set an example in higher education as a leader of student-centered technology innovation. Along with a campus-wide rollout, FIU looks forward to providing digital badging and concurrent learning pathways as a First Year Experience (FYE) initiative to transition students into their first year at FIU, through their academic lifecycle and beyond as alumni.
Students aren't the only to benefit from the Student Success platform, as FIU faculty will find seamless integration with their current learning management system (LMS), Canvas by Instructure, which will connect data typically inaccessible in the LMS to a student's public and lifelong ePortfolio. Using that data, FIU will be able to perform course, program, and institution wide learning outcomes assessment.
"Our priority at Portfolium is to create the connection between learning and opportunity for students, while simultaneously allowing for student-centered assessment practices for faculty," said Troy Markowitz, VP of Academic Partnerships at Portfolium, "Over time this has proven to be the most efficient framework for Student Success and we are proud to provide that to FIU."
