FLEMING ISLAND, Fla., April 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Every year, hundreds of thousands of U.S. servicemen and women receive Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders, causing them and their families to relocate at a moment's notice.
"Receiving PCS orders can be challenging because the service member and their family has to suddenly uproot and transition to a new life in another place," said Sallie, who gives military families a rebate back to the buyer (purchase price) or the seller (credit towards closing).
For military families that have to relocate, Sallie, a Military Relocation Specialist, lists the following three tips to help them seamlessly transition:
No. 1: Line up housing for the new PCS. "Whether you choose to live on or off base, acting fast and getting a place lined up sooner rather than later will put your mind at ease," noted Sallie. "You should also contact the family center at your new base, which can offer relocation assistance programs that provide moving information to you and your family."
For Sallie, whose husband is a veteran and whose son, grandson and son-in-law are all in the military, if she knows 3-4 weeks in advance, she can have things ready for them to go.
No. 2: Schedule your move ASAP after receiving the PCS order. Doing so will give you a better chance of requesting the move-out/move-in dates you want. "Once your move is scheduled, it is imperative to start getting your belongings organized for the movers," added Sallie. "To ensure the process is smooth, label boxes with color-coded stickers. For example, use red stickers on boxes that will go in bedroom one at your new house, then put a red sticker on the door of bedroom one. This helps make the process go by faster and relieves the huge headache of opening each box with the movers to find out where everything goes."
No. 3: Find a qualified local Realtor and get pre-approved. A reputable local Realtor will have insider knowledge, working relationships with lenders and listings that buyers will most likely not be able to find on their own. "It is also essential to find a Realtor who has experience and a proven track record working with military personnel," concluded Sallie. "And by getting pre-approved, we know exactly what they are looking for, and sometimes they may qualify for more than one home."
Sallie personally makes sure that when she works with a military buyer they know all their numbers ahead of time (where and when they spend the money) because it's so important for these couples/families.
