COCOA BEACH, Fla., Sept. 23, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Florida's Space Coast Office of Tourism and the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's Baseball World Cup took home one of the top prizes this week at the Platinum PR Awards presentation in New York.
Every year, PR News hosts one of the nation's leading public relations awards programs. More than 500 of the top brand and agency communicators in the nation are typically entered in the competition, which recognizes outstanding achievements in communications and marketing in several categories.
At the Sept. 17 awards ceremony, Florida's Space Coast was named the Platinum PR Award winner in the Sports Marketing category, which included entries from American Express, Hope-Beckham Inc., NRGized Media and The Stars Group.
Sports Marketing is one of the "Signature" Platinum PR Awards categories. According to PR News, these categories are among the most entered and are also the most difficult to win.
The campaign by Florida's Space Coast focused on building public awareness and garnering media coverage for the 2018 WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup. The August tournament, which was held in Viera, Fla., was the first-ever World Cup baseball event hosted on U.S. soil.
"To be nominated, let alone named the winner, alongside these prestigious and inspiring campaigns is a huge honor," said Peter Cranis, the executive director of Florida's Space Coast Office of Tourism. "We are proud that the underrepresented sport of women's baseball got the recognition it deserves and that our team was able to be a part of this history-making program."
The office of tourism joined forces with Butin Integrated Communications to formulate a distinctive national publicity strategy that ended up being the winning campaign.
"The campaign certainly exceeded our goals," Cranis pointed out. "It generated more than 860 million PR impressions and reminded young girls everywhere they can be anything in today's world."
"We feel this award is a great tribute to women in sports in America," he added. "The campaign not only generated national buzz and interest for the Women's Baseball World Cup, but also commemorated the history and heritage of women's baseball in this country."
