The 15-minute screening includes cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure and BMI. Once screened, each individual will have the chance to sit down one-on-one with a medical professional to discuss their results. Cardiovascular disease is still the number one cause of death in the United States for both men and women, more than all cancers combined. That’s why it is important to know your risk factors for heart disease. Lifestyle, diet and genetics all play a part in heart health risks and benefits. The American Heart Association recommends that heart attack prevention should start by age 20. “Newly revised guidelines for the prevention of heart disease all emphasize an initial risk assessment to guide testing and therapy. This is where regular heart screenings come into play. If I know your cholesterol, body-mass index, and family history… with amazing accuracy, I can predict your actual risk of having cardiovascular disease,” said Dr. Charles Lambert, Medical Director, Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute.
