Setting the stage for middle grade children to be open to a new story of power and empowerment, “Omnipotent” (published by Archway Publishing) by Mariah McIntyre Sharkey-Brumund follows Cassandra on her own quest as she travels through a portal and is swept up into the light of this world and another.

Cassie, a seizure prone 12-year-old girl is torn when she begins to realize the world is not an idyllic or safe place. As parents and teachers seem to minimize her struggles, Cassie questions who is really in charge of her health, her life, or anything. As the responsibilities of her world seem overwhelming, Cassie is swept up into light, and travels on an unimaginable journey to a mysterious location. Cassie wonders if the big forces in her life like her parents, her doctors, her religion are really as powerful as they seem to be, or if in fact, she has had the strength and power within herself all along. After an unsuspecting journey with her dog, she returns restored, as new answers to old questions emerge in an ethereal way.

Sharkey-Brumund hopes her book teaches people “Children hold the key to their own empowerment, that your inner force is the truest strength, believing in yourself is everything, no matter who you are or what you’ve been told. As we say in my house, “Always trust the children.””
