Fork Union Military Academy today announced that LTC Roy A. "Tony" Moss, US Army (Ret.), will be retiring as Commandant of Cadets at the conclusion of this school year. Charlie E. Coulter III has been selected to serve as Fork Union Military Academy's next Commandant of Cadets.
FORK UNION, Va., March 1, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Fork Union Military Academy today announced that LTC Roy A. "Tony" Moss, US Army (Ret.), will be retiring as Commandant of Cadets at the conclusion of this school year. Charlie E. Coulter III has been selected to serve as Fork Union Military Academy's next Commandant of Cadets.
LTC Moss joined the Fork Union Military Academy staff as Chief Financial Officer in 2018 and moved to the position of Commandant of Cadets in 2019. Prior to coming to Fork Union, Moss had served 21 years on active duty with the United States Army, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. LTC Moss is stepping down after five years with the Academy so that he might have more time with his family and provide care for a family member currently battling a serious illness.

Coulter served 20 years on active duty with the United States Marine Corps, retiring at the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Throughout his active-duty military career, Coulter served in various units, including one combat deployment to Iraq and two combat deployments to Afghanistan. He was also deployed twice as part of the 22nd and 24th (Special Operations Capable - SOC) Marine Expeditionary Units. Coulter served as an Assistant Marine Officer Instructor at the University of Virginia's Naval ROTC unit, and as a Sergeant Instructor at Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia and served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Martial Arts Instructor at Parris Island, South Carolina. He joined the staff of Fork Union Military Academy in the summer of 2019, literally the day after he retired from the Marine Corps, as the Deputy Commandant. Most recently, Coulter has been serving the Academy as the Deputy Chief of Staff.
Coulter is a graduate of Ashford University, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management. He earned his Master of Education in Higher Education, Educational Leadership degree from Liberty University. His military education includes Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Advanced Course, Career Course, Sergeants Course, Marial Arts Instructor Course, and he is a graduate from Drill Instructor School.

Known to many on campus as "Gunny" in respect of his esteemed Marine Corps rank of Gunnery Sergeant, as Coulter assumes the position of Commandant of Cadets the Academy is promoting him to the honorific FUMA rank of Colonel.
COL Coulter and his wife, Rebecca, have three grown daughters, Cameron (24), Isabelle (20), and Zoe (18), as well as a one-year-old son, Charlie IV.
