FORK UNION, Va., March 18, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Fork Union Military Academy recognizes and honors the service of CSM Catherine Garcia today in announcing our recent Teacher of the Term results for Term 2 of the 2020-2021 academic year. Nominations for Teacher of the Term are collected from our cadets at the conclusion of the grading term. Those cadet nominations are tallied and reviewed by the Teacher of the Term/Year Committee which is made up by non-academic staff members which then announces the awardee of the Teacher of the Term honor.
CSM Garcia has been a teacher at Fork Union Military Academy since the summer 2001. Currently chair of the English department, CSM Garcia has taught every level of English 9 course available at FUMA. In addition, she spent several years teaching Upper School Art as an evening class at the Academy. Outside of the classroom CSM Garcia has been involved almost everything the Academy has to offer. In athletics, she has served as head Junior Prep Coach. She has been a coordinator for the Military Balls, well as many campus events. She is the faculty sponsor of the Academy's Interact Club, a community service organization associated with the Rotary Club of Fluvanna County. CSM Garcia has been a monumental force in our larger Fork Union and Fluvanna County community, helping coordinate and supervise the many community service projects undertaken by Fork Union Military Academy cadets.
CSM Garcia received numerous heartfelt nominations. One cadet wrote, "She is an incredible teacher. She challenged us to the point where we learned 100 vocab words by the end of the term, and I had a final grade of 98. She was very helpful and a great motivator. She knew how to discipline the class but also build up our spirits. Overall, I can honestly say that she has been the best teacher I've ever had. I learned so much in that class and it has really helped me."
Another cadet shared that, "Mrs. Garcia is very kind and nice to her students. She always helps me when I need help or when I have trouble with my homework. She always takes care of her students. She always shares with her students many stories, and her students also can share with her their stories. When I was in her class, I felt very comfortable and my grades improved because of her teaching methods. She is the best teacher ever!"
