Galena, created in collaboration with acclaimed Miami artist Jillian Mayer, the installation transforms the classic photobooth into a work of public art
MIAMI, Oct. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Foto Comercio, Miami's vintage-inspired photobooth company, today announced the debut of Galena - a custom-designed photobooth installation created in collaboration with acclaimed artist Jillian Mayer in the Miami Design District. Located in the open-air walkway between Gucci and Chanel, the new installation brings together photography, technology, and contemporary public art, offering visitors an interactive experience within one of Miami's leading cultural and design destinations.
The installation marks Foto Comercio's 26th permanent booth in less than two years, and its first major collaboration with a contemporary visual artist. Designed as both a work of art and an interactive photography experience, Galena reimagines the traditional photo booth as more than a place to capture a picture. The installation invites visitors to pause, reflect and see themselves differently, creating a moment of quiet introspection within one of Miami's most vibrant and visually stimulating neighborhoods.
"When we launched Foto Comercio less than two years ago, we never imagined that we'd be launching our 26th booth in the Miami Design District," said co-founder Mike Silver. "Inspired by the vintage street photobooth scene in Paris, our goal has always been to bring tangible, meaningful photography experiences to Miami. Partnering with the astonishingly creative Jillian Mayer is the crescendo of this mission, and this installation represents an exciting milestone in that journey."
Known for work exploring the relationship between physical bodies and digital identities, Mayer brings a multidisciplinary artistic perspective spanning film, sculpture, performance and interactive media. "My work often examines how technology reshapes human interaction, while exploring the tension between legacy and innovation," said Mayer. "I'm drawn to the spaces where analog and digital worlds converge, overlap and sometimes conflict. These ideas inspired my design for Foto Comercio's photobooth: a space for digital capture that nods to an invention first introduced in 1925."
Set within the Miami Design District's dynamic public realm, the installation contributes to the neighborhood's ongoing dialogue between contemporary art, design, and everyday life, inviting visitors to engage with an artist's work in an unexpected and accessible format.
The Miami Design District installation reflects Foto Comercio's broader ambition to transform the traditional photobooth from a simple form of entertainment into a cultural and social experience that offers a tangible counterpoint to our increasingly digital lives.
