Four attorneys from the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin were among those recently inducted into the 2020 North Carolina Pro Bono Honor Society. The attorneys – Leila Hicks, Gary Jackson, Kevin Mahoney, and Anabel Rosa – were recognized for their “substantial and valuable” contributions to the state. Inductees must have provided at least 50 hours of legal services in 2020 free of charge.

Beyond their work with the Pro Bono Resource Center, each of the attorneys has demonstrated dedication to serving their communities. Hicks, an active volunteer for Special Olympics of Orange County, recently served as Law Student Division Director for the Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA). As Director, she worked to connect law students with needed resources. Jackson has spent decades giving back and fighting for the vulnerable. He is a former president of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice and has served on the Board of the Southern Trial Lawyers Association since 2008.

Mahoney served North Carolina as a Special Deputy Attorney General for years. He is also a past vice-president for the Asheville Buncombe Youth Soccer Association and a past president for the Rotary Club of Asheville South. Rounding out the four honorees from James Scott Farrin is Anabel Rosa. Rosa received the Citizen Lawyer Award from the NCBA in 2020 and served on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Hispanic Latino Affairs.
