FREDERICK, Md., June 7, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Women's Giving Circle of Frederick County announces that 30 grants totaling $245,092 have been presented to 20 area nonprofits serving women and their dependents. The grants are provided from The Women's Giving Circle of Frederick County Fund, one of more than 740 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The FY2021 grants bring the Women's Giving Circle grant total to more than $2 million since the first grants were distributed. The organization was formed in 2006 and provides opportunities for donors to promote and support programs that enable and empower women in challenging situations to improve the quality of their lives and the lives of their dependents. The Women's Giving Circle brings people together who share similar philanthropic goals to benefit women's needs, and the organization has grown to include more than 400 members.
Funding priorities for FY2021 focused on supporting women's efforts to become self-sufficient, understanding that encouragement and financial assistance are compelling factors in restoring stability and hope. The following nonprofits received grants:
Aavanee received a $4,000 grant to provide workforce training for single mothers and single adult women.
Advocates for Homeless Families received a $4,000 grant to provide transportation and childcare support for mothers experiencing homelessness and a $4,000 grant to provide emergency financial assistance for women and their children experiencing homelessness.
Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County received a $10,000 grant to provide summer childcare scholarships for children of single mothers.
Centro Hispano de Frederick received a $7,500 grant to support its "Entre Mujeres" program that offers life skills, educational information, coaching, and advocacy to help Limited English Proficiency women and mothers overcome barriers to self-sufficiency.
Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership received a $7,600 grant to provide scholarships for Frederick Community College workforce development programs to women who are impacted by incarceration.
Empowered to Live, Inc. received a $10,000 grant to provide mentoring and coaching for young mothers, including financial literacy and life skills training.
Frederick Community College Foundation received a $10,000 grant for its Project Forward Step program to provide support for low-income single or displaced mothers to help them acquire an education, a $4,000 grant for its Allied Health Academy to assist unemployed or underemployed women seeking to acquire training in an allied health field, and a $6,000 grant for its Parents Lead Program to provide childcare scholarships for low-income women who are student-parents while they pursue their education.
Frederick Rescue Mission, Inc. received a $10,000 grant for its Faith House Program in support of a program specialist to provide case management services to women and children and a $3,000 grant to support its food distribution center for Faith House residents.
Housing Authority of the City of Frederick received a $10,000 grant to provide childcare support for mothers seeking to exit poverty and a $10,000 grant to support women's efforts to move forward by making transportation costs more affordable.
Housing Frederick received a $5,000 grant to provide financial literacy training for low-income women.
Literacy Council of Frederick County, Inc. received a $5,000 grant to support workplace literacy for women employed in low-wage jobs.
Mental Health Association of Frederick County received a $10,000 grant for workforce training for women in childcare fields.
Mission of Mercy, Inc. received a $7,500 grant to provide medical care for uninsured and underinsured women and a $7,500 grant to provide dental care for uninsured and underinsured women.
Second Chances Garage, Inc. received a $10,000 grant to provide financial assistance to Assisted Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) women for the maintenance of their vehicles and a $10,000 grant to provide refurbished vehicles to ALICE women.
Seton Center, Inc. received a $10,000 grant for its DePaul Dental Program to provide dental screenings and services to uninsured, low-income women and a $10,000 grant to support the cost of dentures or partials for uninsured, low-income women.
Spanish Speaking Community of Maryland, Inc. received a $10,000 grant to support and educate mothers who are victims of abuse and trafficking and have children in Frederick County Public Schools.
The Bettie Jane Cancer Foundation, Inc. received a $10,000 grant to provide support for adult women impacted by cancer with medical costs and living expenses.
The Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs received a $10,000 grant to provide emergency shelter and case management support for women and children experiencing homelessness and a $10,000 grant to provide homelessness prevention services for women and their families.
The Salvation Army received a $10,000 grant for its Pathway of Hope program providing case management services and housing support for women and their children.
Women to Women Mentoring, Inc. received a $9,996 grant to support a workforce mentoring program for ALICE women and a $9,996 grant to support Women to Women Mentoring's CORE Program, which provides mentoring support for single mothers and first-generation college students.
