LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 25, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Parents and educators looking to keep students engaged during online learning have a new tool, thanks to an educational nonprofit and the heroes of September 11th.
Global Game Changers, a nonprofit organization that inspires kids to engage in community service through superhero themes, recently launched a new website and curriculum surrounding the events of September 11, 2011. The 911 Lesson: Celebrating Real Life Superheroes! is an engaging site that will help kids ages 5-10 learn about this pivotal moment in American history, understand the sacrifices of the real-life superheroes who answered the call of duty, and IGNITE GOOD! with their own acts of service.
911Lesson.org goes live on September 1st, just as kids across the country are starting their school year virtually. The site is a free resource for teachers, homeschoolers, or parents who want to enrich their child's existing online instruction with relevant and timely activities.
The site includes:
- Role-Playing Experiences: Interactive modules that let students experience 9/11 through the eyes of first responders.
- Interactive Gallery: A virtual museum including news clips, artifacts from the day, and other engaging content for children to browse based on their interests.
- Service Project: Ideas on how students can honor the real-life superheroes of 9/11 through their own service projects, focused on the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Lessons/Support: Lessons that teachers and parents can complete with their students, as well as guides about how to talk to kids about 9/11 and other resources.
Thanks to a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service, The 911 Lesson: Celebrating Real Life Superheroes! is completely free. Global Game Changers also offers many more free resources for educators at http://www.globalgamechangers.org, as well as a new children's book, Never Forget 9/11: Love Always Wins.
ABOUT GLOBAL GAMECHANGERS
Founded in 2013, Global Game Changers Student Empowerment Program (GGC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is an innovative in-school and out-of-school evidence-based curriculum. GGC uses service-learning as a tool to promote deeper learning experiences that build elementary students' social-emotional competencies, character, and leadership skills. Using a strengths-based approach, students discover their individual superpowers to IGNITE GOOD!® and make the world a better place using the Equation: MY TALENT + MY HEART = MY SUPERPOWER!® This unique approach to social-emotional learning develops the Whole Child and empowers students to overcome apathy and feel empathy, develop a sustainable connection and engagement in service beyond the program.
Designed to align with both the needs of educators and the needs of students, the curriculum is Common Core State Standards-compliant, flexible, and differentiated by grade levels. The program is appropriate in and out of school and the online educator platform provides access to evaluation, professional development, and classroom resource tools. In addition, GGC is currently developing a children's show, GLOBAL GAME CHANGERS. GGC is committed to equitable access for all, and as such, the curriculum is privately funded through the Novak Family Foundation and free to educators nationwide. Through a custom- developed online educator portal, the program is being used nationwide.
