FreightPOP announced the release of its MCP server, which lets AI assistants built on frontier models, including Anthropic's Claude, quote, book, track, and check inventory directly inside a customer's FreightPOP account. The connector exposes 11 platform tools, with every call authenticated to an individual FreightPOP user and access controlled by administrators at both the company and the user level.
IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 17, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- FreightPOP, the AI supply chain software purpose-built for modern enterprise shippers, has extended its platform to support direct interaction with AI assistants, so customers can run freight and warehouse operations from the AI client of their choice.
The server implements the Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI assistants to live business systems. Rather than asking a model to reason about freight from general knowledge, customers connect their own FreightPOP account and let the assistant call real platform functions against their own data.
The connector exposes 11 tools spanning transportation and warehouse operations. Eight are read-only, covering rate quoting across connected carriers, carrier and service lookup, shipment tracking, full shipment detail retrieval, address validation, warehouse inventory by item number, picking status, and inbound receipt search. Three take action:
- Create a shipment, either from a prior quote or ad hoc with a chosen carrier
- Import orders in bulk, up to 50 per request
- Cancel a shipment where the carrier still allows it
In practice, a logistics manager can ask their assistant to rate shop a shipment, book the winning carrier, and confirm the pick status of the order behind it without opening a second system.
Administrators decide who gets access. Every call to the MCP server is authenticated to an individual FreightPOP user, and administrators control which users can connect through an AI Accessibility toggle available at both the company level and the individual user level. Read and write operations are exposed as separate tools, so actions that change data are always explicit calls.
The FreightPOP MCP server is available now. Access is enabled per account through a customer's FreightPOP account manager, after which administrators turn it on for individual users in the user manager and connect their AI client of choice. Tool documentation is available in the FreightPOP Knowledge Center.
