Friends of Sheba Medical Center Hosts Successful Inaugural Women's Luncheon in San Fernando Valley
Earlier this week, a group of powerful women from the San Fernando Valley and the State of Israel attended Friends of Sheba Medical Center's first women's luncheon. 180 people attended the sold-out event, which successfully raised over $60,000 for the organization's efforts to support pediatric neuro-oncology at Israel's Sheba Medical Center.
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 31, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Friends of Sheba Medical Center is proud to share that its inaugural Women's Community Luncheon on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 was a great success. The event celebrated powerful women from Israel and the San Fernando Valley who are working to enhance the future of medicine through their support of Sheba Medical Center, the largest hospital in Israel and the entire Middle East.
The luncheon featured keynote speaker Dr. Michal Yalon-Oren, head of the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Department at Sheba Medical Center. Dr. Yalon-Oren aims to improve the prognosis of children with brain tumors through individualized therapy, which combines clinical work, the most advanced therapy, and diagnostic research, in order to develop the best treatment options. 180 event attendees who were inspired by Dr. Yalon-Oren's innovative work were moved to donate more than $60,000.
In addition to hearing Dr. Yalon-Oren's inspirational presentation, guests were entertained by the event's emcee Brittney Hopper, and Cantor Emma Lutz of Stephen S. Wise performed the American and Israeli national anthems. The hosting committee chose Dr. Tanya Altmann as the event honoree for her incredible work as a pediatrician and best-selling author.

Friends of Sheba Medical Center is also hosting its annual Gala on Sunday, October 14 to celebrate 70 years of Sheba Medical Center saving lives and the country of Israel turning 70 years old. Actor and comedian Jason Alexander will be the celebrity host for the event, which will also welcome former Sheba Medical Center patient and IDF Soldier Ohad Ben Yashad, who had to relearn how to use his body with the help of the Sheba Rehabilitation Hospital, and Dr. Itai Pessach, a senior pediatric care physician and Deputy Director of the Edmond and Lily Safra Children's Hospital, as the speakers for the evening.
