Program awards scholarships to college students and high school seniors in a broad range of academic studies
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Dec. 15, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- This week marks the opening of the 29th cycle of the Friends of the California State Fair Scholarship Program, an initiative that awards up to $50,000 each year to California students pursuing post-secondary education.
This year, the Friends of the California State Fair will grant scholarships of $1,000 to $2,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors and students currently pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in the state of California.
Applicants may apply to one of 12 scholarship categories - including agriculture, art, business, culinary/hospitality/event planning, teaching, trade school, wine making/grape growing, and more. Applications are evaluated based on academics, community involvement, and volunteerism, as well as a personal essay and recommendations.
Top winners in select categories may be invited to compete for the $5,000 Ironstone Concours Foundation/Friends of the California State Fair Scholarship, an award that recognizes one standout candidate like 2022 recipient Kevin Cooper.
"It has been my experience that continuously seeking knowledge is the key to setting the bar for the next generation, which is the driving force to me succeeding in college," said Cooper, a senior at California State University - Long Beach studying Hospitality Management, in his scholarship essay. "I believe that it is my time to contribute to the industry by solving current issues and integrating new innovative ideas to sustain with its constant growth. My education has and will continue to create networks, unlock opportunities, and build bridges for me to make those contributions."
