Galician Cinema & Food Festival Marks its First Step in New York to Xacobeo 2021
The GC & FF, which seeks to promote Galician products in the US market, took place from June 24 to 27 in the emblematic spaces of the Cervantes Institute and Cosentino City, in Manhattan.
NEW YORK, June 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The "Galician Cinema & Food Festival", the largest event to promote the Galician community in the United States puts an end to its fifth edition. The festival, held in the emblematic premises of Cervantes Institute and Cosentino City, also coincided with the celebration of Fancy Food Festival, the most important food fair in the country.
GC & FF is consolidated as a fundamental space for the promotion and enhancement of Galician products and brands in the US market. Elena Pérez-Canal, the festival's director, inaugurated the Galician film and gastronomy contest affirming that: "We come from the end of the world to bring our stars and, 5 years later, this phrase and project have become the biggest event of promotion of Galicia in USA. We hope you enjoy the flavor of the Camino! "
Lucía Freitas, recognized with a Michelin star for her A Tafona restaurant in Santiago de Compostela, took over the team of Tomiño, the fashionable Galician tavern in Manhattan. The chef is the first woman ambassador of Galician gastronomy to cross over the Atlantic to host this fifth edition of GC & FF.
Starting with an exclusive show cooking starring the fishing products of Rías - all of them paired with Aceites Abril - to professional distributors such as "James Beard Foundation" and specialized press like "Wines & Travel" on June 24th followed by taking lead of a tasting with Galician products at "The Taste of the Way Day", an event with over 150 guests in the courtyard of the Cervantes Institute on June 25th.
Estrella Galicia, one of the leading brands in Galicia and sponsor of the event since day one, also had its space at the Galician Cinema & Food Festival with a "Beer Culture Session" hosted by Cosentino City on June 26th.
Distributors, hoteliers and specialized press attended an informative workshop on beer culture accompanied by a tasting of the company's beers paired with Galician cuisine.
The event's organizers wanted to give recognition to El Camino de Santiago in the most ambitious edition to date of GC & FF, which is also at the doors of the next Xacobeo year of 2021.
Therefore, on June 27th "The Way Film Day" took place, screening the documentary "Strangers on the Earth - A Journey on the Camino de Santiago" by director Tristan Cook, followed by a Q&A with producer Patrick Terry at the Cervantes Institute.
The documentary extended its emission in the Galician centers of New York and New Jersey along with the projection of "Walking the Way" of the filmmaker Lydia Smith.
Lastly, the festival reinforced the dissemination of the Xacobea Route in New York with the exhibition "The way to Santiago. A recent experience of pilgrimage " by photographer Manuel Valcárcel. GC & FF marked the last US stop for this photographic exhibit, promoted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism collaboration with Correos, and will be open to the public until July 21st at Instituto Cervantes in New York City.
