Game On! Costa Rica Town Enjoys Growth of Sports Tourism
Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica (PRWEB) March 27, 2015 -- Tulemar Resort, located in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, is excited to welcome the semi-final round of the National Beach Volleyball Championships to nearby Manuel Antonio beach from March 28th to the 29th. Clubs from all around the Central American country will be traveling to represent their towns and compete for a spot in the National Championships on the beach.
The tournament is the latest sports tourism event to take place in Manuel Antonio. The area has been becoming more and more of a destination for events similar to the National Beach Volley Championships. In February alone, the town welcomed the Quepos Billfish Cup and the Chorro Rafting Races. That trend looks to continue, as later in the year Manuel Antonio will be hosting the third annual Reto M.A.E. trail race, one of the many successful events that are in their infancy, with others likely to be added to the calendar.
Tulemar spokesperson, Dave Houck commented on the growing sports tourism: "Event organizers are holding events in the area more frequently because they know they can expect sunny weather, perfect for competitors and spectators alike. I suppose it also helps that Manuel Antonio is a pretty gorgeous place, but that may be my own bias,” Houck said with a laugh. Houck's humble statement does not seem to be bias at all, however, as the social media travel behemoth, Tripadvisor, recently ranked Manuel Antonio Beach the seventeenth most beautiful beach in the world.
The tournament will be action-packed all weekend, consisting of both men and women's brackets. Beach goers will get a chance to take a break from surfing, swimming, and sunbathing to watch the athletes dig their toes into the sand and fight for a spot in the next round.
Houck also commented on the excitement around town about the event and the many events that seem to be popping up, “I cannot wait to see the beach this weekend. I think the competitive energy will really make for a really fun time. It's just great how these events are popping up. Locals and tourists alike love the energy they bring to town, and each one is so different and unique in its own way. You never know what sport is going to find its way down here next.”
The tournament is organized by The Costa Rican Volleyball Federation, who manages the national league. With Olympic beach volleyball rules, the teams in the tournament are in duos. Matches are slated to begin Saturday morning and go through Sunday.
