LAKELAND, Fla., Sept. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Two Lakeland community members got a little bit of extra help when they needed it this month from the inaugural Gator Gives initiative. Gator Gives is the latest community-enrichment effort sponsored by Action Gator Tire, a third-generation, family-owned Florida tire and auto service shops.
Action Gator Tire elected to donate a set of tires and a year of auto service worth up to $2,500 to an individual that was nominated by those that believe they deserved a helping hand. People were encouraged to submit a nominee of their choice at http://www.gatorgives.com, which will open a new round of nominations and community activities in the next few weeks.
Christensen spoke on how difficult it was to sift through the nominees and choose a winner:
"Looking through these (nominees) wrenches my heart," he said. "I wish I could I could help all of them."
Upon reviewing an overwhelming amount of responses, Action Gator Tire couldn't pick just one. That's why the company selected two recipients for this community-driven helping hand. Antonio S. and Laurie H., both of the Lakeland community, were individually selected to each receive 4 new tires and auto service.
Antonio is a working father of three that has been using one car to shuttle two of his children to regular doctor's appointments across Central Florida. Between work, visits to the specialists, and extracurriculars, that's a lot of miles for one vehicle. The maintenance and tires he'll receive through Gator Gives will reduce wear and tear on his car while providing a much-needed break to a hardworking parent trying to make ends meet.
Laurie is a disabled woman who is active in helping to feed the homeless through her church's food pantry ministry. Having to rely on disability, she had been unable to get the repairs needed for her car since it broke down. Laurie's influence on her community is clear because more than ten different people nominated her. Thanks to Gator Gives, Laurie will be able to get back on the road. Now, she can transport herself to the doctor's office and visits to the store without having to walk or rely on friends and neighbors for rides.
Response to Gator Gives has been humbling and overwhelming. Action Gator Tire said it was moved to see such support.
