Existing campus will embark on extensive renovations with the addition of multiple new buildings.
PALMETTO, Fla., March 22, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Gilbane Building Company announced breaking ground on the Palmetto High School replacement project. The School District of Manatee County has partnered with SchenkelShultz Architects and Gilbane Building Company to perform services that entail renovations, upgrades, and new construction of a two-story building with a 60,000 SF addition to house science, art, and business education classrooms. In addition, there will be a new 22,500 SF cafeteria building and a new administrative entry to enhance the image of the campus by providing well defined entry and public lobby area.

Opening in 1957, Palmetto High School last underwent major renovations in the early 2000s. The current renovations will also include a new bus loop and roadway entrance.

"I want to thank our School Board for their leadership in making this project possible and for the citizens of Manatee County who supported the half-cent sales tax in November 2016 to make sure our students have access to first-class facilities."
The $39 million-dollar project, funded from the sales tax revenue, will include much-needed upgrades and renovations to the campus baseball stadium, comprising of new dugouts, concession stand, lockers, restrooms, press box, offices, bleachers, and a new marquee.
Construction on the major renovation project will be done in phases to allow campus activity to continue without disruption, and the completion goal is set for the summer of 2024.
