He will succeed Edward Broderick who was recently appointed chief executive officer of Gilbane and served as president of Gilbane Development since January 2014.

Prior to joining Gilbane Development, he served as Partner in the Real Estate practice at McKinsey & Company and as President & CEO of the New York City Economic Development Corporation where he ran a portfolio of over 60 million square feet of real estate, managed $10 billion in development and infrastructure projects, and helped establish New York City as an innovation hub in life sciences, fintech, cybersecurity, and green energy.
He also previously served as Chief Executive Officer at A&E Real Estate, a vertically integrated real estate management and investment firm. James also was Vice President in the Urban Investment Group of Goldman Sachs, investing equity and debt in real estate projects across the U.S. In addition, he served as Chief of Staff to the NYC Deputy Mayor for Housing and Economic Development. James holds a BA in Economics from Amherst College and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
