Gladinet Enhances Security with 2-Factor Authentication
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (PRWEB) April 16, 2015 -- Gladinet continues to enhance its enterprise file sync and share platform by leveraging Google Authenticator to support 2-factor authentication when logging in from any Gladinet cloud storage client. Google Authenticator implements TOTP security tokens and provides a six to eight digit password which users must provide in addition to their username and password.
Gladinet users will typically install the Authenticator app on their device after the Gladinet administrator has enabled 2-factor authentication (or 2-step verification). To login to their Gladinet account, they will provide a user name and password and then run the Authenticator app which generates the code that needs to also be presented to the Gladinet site. The user will be authenticated when the code and credentials have been validated by the Gladinet site.
The new security feature requires a set-up operation which has to be performed ahead of time: the Gladinet site provides a shared secret key to the user over a secured channel, to be stored in the Authenticator app. That key will be used for all future logins.
"With added support for 2-factor authentication, an attacker now requires knowledge of the shared secret or physical access to the device in addition to the user credentials. These new authentication changes combine with our existing security features to present a compelling cloud storage security story for our platform," said Jerry Huang, Gladinet's CEO.
