Global Banks Turn to Portugal for Software Engineering Talent - Bliss Applications Reports

Global banking institutions are turning to Portugal for tech talent to modernize their business, as reported by Bliss Applications.

Portugal is a place associated with sunshine, food, wine and an inexpensive lifestyle - but today it is also known as a utopia for software engineers.

There are over a thousand software development companies in Portugal competing for and training highly qualified talent. Many global companies, such as Google, Mercedes, Revolut, Volkswagen, or Sky, recognized the reality of borderless business and created large tech hubs in Lisbon or Porto.

This industry is booming as a result of the government's efforts with higher education for software engineering, events such as WebSummit and the strong startup ecosystem. Unlike some other sectors, IT talent has not been moving abroad in large numbers.

Portugal-based software companies are growing in appeal for global corporations and the banking sector is taking advantage of the opportunity.

It is estimated that most of the banking sector will go entirely online within 5 years, increasing the need for software engineering talent in the sector. The pressures to modernize are pushing traditional banks to improve rapidly and reach out to boutique consultancies that specialize in this sector to help them.

An example of this trend of global banking institutions utilizing software talent in Portugal is Bliss Applications. With over ten years of building banking apps, Bliss has earned a reputation for themselves when it comes to transforming the customer experience of big banks and fintechs.

Today, more than a million people have interacted with an app or website designed by Bliss Applications.

“I believe the main reason for our success is understanding why banks and insurance companies struggle with this, internally,” says André Gil, CEO. “To overcome this, Bliss Applications creates an environment where the opposite flourishes. Old school enterprises often don't know how to listen to their clients, and this happens because C-levels think that the end-user thinks like them. In reality, they don't."
