The Virtual Summit on Integrative Care for Global Pandemic was held on Jan 23-24, 2021, with outpouring support and great success. The summit was conceived and organized at a moment when the COVID-19 cases are still rising at alarming rates in many parts of the world. The lead organizer, World Federation of Integrative Medicine Societies, took the initiative to solicit and summarize strategic thoughts, effective intervention methods suitable for patients at different stages of their infection, and prevention methods that promote mind-body health and stronger immunity. It is the hope of all participants that by sharing their expertise, successes and lessons learned with the English-speaking world, it will greatly benefit their colleagues who are still deep in trench fighting the global pandemic.
With barely 2 weeks to prepare for the virtual conference, it was a miracle that more than 70 speakers from over 50 countries came together to share their expertise and experience. Their outpouring support for this two-day, 28-hour, marathon-like conference spoke volume of their eagerness and determination to turn the tide of the raging pandemic! Among the speakers, there were iconic Chinese medicine doctors who fought at the front line in Wuhan, and TCM physicians from all five continents who have used acupuncture and herbs with great success in treating COVID patients with different complications. Many world-renowned Tai Chi and Qigong masters, and fitness-wellness experts also shared their immunity boosting movements and meditations - a very meaningful commemoration of Tai Chi being listed as the World Intangible Heritage of Humanity by United Nations. Many other naturopathic and holistic care practitioners, such as clinical hypnotherapists, chiropractors, rehabilitation doctors, aromatherapists, and homeopathic doctors, also presented their way of helping people staying healthy or recovering from various complications from COVID-19. Such sharing is extremely meaningful at this critical moment, and it is significant that we got tremendous support from integrative medical community.
Chairman Wang Yingqiu of the conference said: There are two themes of the conference. One is to celebrate the success of Tai Chi's application for recognition as world heritage and to advocate to the world to practice Tai Chi Qigong as a tool to strengthen immunity and prevent the new Coronavirus! Zhu Miansheng, chairman of the European Federation of Chinese Medicine Experts, took the lead in advocating the establishment of December 17 as World Tai Chi Day. Executive Chairman Fu Xueli's proposal to set up December 17 to celebrate the anniversary of the successful Tai Chi application was supported by Chairman Zhu Miansheng, and seconded by Wang Yingqiu, Chairman of the World Federation of Integrative Medicine Societies. A total of 119 experts signed on to support this effort and the proposal will be forwarded to the UNESCO Ambassador Yang Jin. The hope of this effort is to set up an anniversary day to celebrate the success of Tai Chi's application to be promoted by the Chinese medical community. Second of the themes of the conference is to exchange and promote various traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture and various integrated medical therapies. In particular, the methods that are effective in the fight against the epidemic have been sorted out, led by the director of the expert committee Lu Biao and the director of the academic committee Jiang Dan. Bringing together the wisdom of the world's top Chinese medicine experts, we have compiled and launched anti-Coronavirus Chinese medicine prescriptions suitable for the current epidemic.
At the opening meeting, the editors of World Taichi Net Yu Gongbao and Li Deyin Chinese Wushu 9-duan represent the Tai Chi session video congratulations, and then the Tai Chi Prince Chen Sitan led the world to practice Tai Chi, followed by Li Hui leading the Ba Duan Jin, to then introduce the anti-epidemic of the American Association of Chinese Medicine under the leadership of President Hu Jun. The closing ceremony was presided over by Shaolin Shi Yanlin of the 9th World Meditation Conference. Shaolin Shi Yanlin prayed for all those affected by the world epidemic. A new European Federation of Chinese Medicine Experts jointly organized the forum, 30 co-organizers, 7 supporting units. The famous calligrapher Gao Yuhai gave the conference a presentation of the calligraphy "Integrating Medicine, Global Anti-epidemic" to represent everyone's voice.
You can watch the English replays of conference presentations at any time through the QH Qihuang healthcare website (http://www.qihuanghealthcare.cn) to practice Tai Chi and listen to academic lectures.
The conference also invites all experts to voluntarily provide a short, 2-minute video focused on teaching how to quickly improve one's immune system.
