DURHAM, N.C., July 16, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Goodwill Community Foundation® of Durham, NC grants $100,000 to Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley (GIMV) in support of its Veteran Services Center Capital Campaign. The grant marks the first time a local Goodwill has funded another local Goodwill's services.
Dennis McLain, President of GCF® presented Michael Meyer, President and CEO of GIMV, and Danny Farrar, Founder of Platoon 22, with a check on June 24 at the Goodwill Delegate Assembly in Pittsburgh, PA.
"GCF believes it is essential to create opportunities for individuals such as veterans and their families for a better life beyond their service," said Rev. McLain. "Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley is well-equipped to meet the needs of their community through its new Veteran Services Center."
The Veteran Services Center Capital Campaign will support 20,000 square feet of space inside GIMV's anticipated Frederick campus located on Monocacy Boulevard to provide transitional services to warriors and their families in the areas of counseling, job training, benefits navigation and more. There will also be a focus on mental health solutions in order to address the veteran suicide epidemic through GIMV's partnership with Platoon 22. The center is scheduled to open July 2020.
