DURHAM, N.C., June 3, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Goodwill Community Foundation® partnered with West Craven High School in Vanceboro, NC to transform a Math classroom by purchasing innovative desks and chairs.
Last year, math teacher Mrs. Malveata Collins was the facilitator for the Math 1 Professional Learning Community (PLC) at West Craven High School, and her PLC was recognized at the end of the school year by the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Meghan Doyle and the Craven County Board of Education as a "Leader of Learning".
"We received a grant and partnered with GCF to help buy much needed and updated classroom furniture. The dry-erase desks help our math students take notes and visualize group ideas," says Tabari Wallace, Principal at West Craven High School in Vanceboro, NC. "It is awesome to know there are wonderful people in our community that believe in quality education for all children."
PLC is a group of educators that meets frequently, shares expertise, and works collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students. The PLC in West Craven High School focuses on student achievement and recognizes that purposefully designing learning experiences and delivering high-quality instruction are necessary to maximize the learning potential of every student.
"Principal Wallace reached out to us for assistance with buying classroom furniture and we were able to match their grant while celebrating students and the importance of education to their lives," says Rev. Dennis McLain, president, GCF®. "Meeting this need assures that a child has the essential tools necessary to succeed in school."
