Goodwill Community Foundation Donates $100,000 to Disaster Relief in North Carolina
DURHAM, N.C. (PRWEB) October 10, 2018 -- Goodwill Community Foundation (GCF) donated $100,000 toward disaster relief and recovery efforts for those in North Carolina devastated by Hurricane Florence. GCF partnered with NC Baptists on Mission (NCBM), a ministry of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, to help victims of the hurricane. This is the third year in a row that GCF has made a gift of $100,000 to this organization. Last year’s funds went toward recovery, relief and rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey, and in 2016 funds went toward recovery efforts in Eastern North Carolina after Hurricane Matthew.
“We are grateful for the long-time support of GCF. Their generous donation will help us in serving individuals and families who have been impacted by Hurricane Florence,” said Richard Brunson, executive director of NC Baptists on Mission. “We are thankful that we can partner once again during a time when many here in North Carolina need help and their donation will ensure we can serve in communities that have been devastated by the storm.”
NC Baptists on Mission are already on the ground having set up large mobile feeding kitchens at 10 locations across Eastern North Carolina with plans to add more. Recovery operations are underway and volunteers from all over the country are assisting with these relief efforts.
“This was an easy decision for us based on our many years in partnership helping those in need during disasters,” said Rev. Dennis McLain, president and CEO of Goodwill Community Foundation. “NC Baptists on Mission go in on the ground with volunteers and empower the community to sustain themselves and build back and that’s an important part of our criteria for giving.”
This donation demonstrates GCF’s mission to “Create Opportunities for a Better Life” for those in need of food, shelter and disaster relief over the time it will take for families and communities to recover. All the funds from the donation will go directly toward disaster relief and recovery efforts.
