FREDERICK, Md., May 8, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley (GIMV) and Platoon 22 announced they have launched a capital campaign to underwrite the construction of a new, regional veterans' services center in Frederick. The announcement of the $2M raise was made by Michael Meyer, GIMV's CEO and a Marine, along with Army veteran Danny Farrar and his wife, Jennifer Farrar, co-founders of Platoon 22, at GIMV's Golden Gala at New Spire Stages last evening.
"We have an obligation to serve our veterans and their families," said Meyer, "this Center will not only deliver best-in-class services, it will be a national model."
GIMV, celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year, is a long-time resource for residents of Frederick and Carroll Counties. GIMV has demonstrated excellence in the service of clients who face challenges yet desire meaningful work. In 2018, the organization announced that they would expand mission services to include veterans and their families. Platoon 22 has been identified as a founding partner and a critical resource within the veteran community.
Platoon 22 envisions a world where veterans and first responders have the resources they need to receive effective mental health solutions, all while raising awareness to bring about meaningful change to the suicide epidemic among veterans.
The relationship between the two organizations will ensure that the case management, service delivery, and the continued care for veterans is done efficiently, consistently, and effectively. Services include employment readiness, placement, behavioral health, housing, and benefits navigation. The organizations will continue to explore deeper and more impactful models for them to serve the community of veterans and their families.
The Center will be home to more than a dozen staff and strategic partners, all committed to serving veterans and their families, eliminating the oftentimes frustrating bureaucracy that is a barrier to the veteran and their family in receiving their much-deserved, hard-earned benefits.
