Author Ligia Carvalho receives the Finalist-Award for her book, Grandma is a Star - a book about grief for kids, category Children's Mind/Body/Spirit.
It is the first award received by the author, which makes the moment even more special. "I feel accomplished with this recognition. Knowing that some important people from the industry have read my book and liked it, it is beyond special."
The President and CEO of American Book Fest, Jeffrey Keen, said this year's contest yielded over 2,000 entries from authors and publishers worldwide.
When Carvalho wrote the book back in 2018, she just wanted to touch hearts. “This story is very close to our family. I knew this book could touch someone's heart, the same way it has touched ours.”

About the Author
Ligia Carvalho is an aspiring children's book author that is keen to transform her ideas into great stories every day. Her first book, "Max Loves Cupcakes," was published in 2017, and it was the start of her writing career. In 2018, she was able to release her second book, "Grandma is a Star - a book about grief for kids."
Ligia Carvalho was born in Brazil, where she got her Bachelor's degree in Social Communication. She moved to Canada in 2009, where she continued her studies in Business Writing. Working as a Freelance Writer, the mother of three young boys enjoys travelling and reading as much as she can.
