Granite Transformations Gives the Gift of a Kitchen Remodel to Family Fighting Myelofibrosis
Granite Transformations of Spokane donates a kitchen remodel to the family of a man who has 8 kids and was diagnosed with life-threatening Myelofibrosis.
SPOKANE, Wash., March 7, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Granite Transformations of Spokane, a premier home and businesses renovation company specializing in kitchens and bathrooms, recently remodeled the kitchen of Rick Jennings, who on February 28, 2018, received the heartbreaking news that he had Myelofibrosis, a rare type of chronic leukemia. Furthermore, Jennings was given only 2 years to live.
"If that were not enough, Rick's family had minimal insurance through his wife Julia's work, so at the time of his diagnosis they had little to no hope of even attempting a stem cell transplant," said Lynee Jeffrey, owner of Granite Transformations of Spokane.
However, Rick's daughter Autumn saw this family crisis as an opportunity. She went on Facebook and asked if anyone had ideas on how to remodel a kitchen for little cost. That's when Granite Transformations of Spokane stepped in. "One of our employees, Shantel, saw the post, heard the Jennings' story, and jumped into action," stated Jeffrey. "Shantel attended the same high school as Autumn, and noticed how many times she had entered the free remodel contests put on by Granite Transformations. What she didn't notice was the pain and suffering the family was going through behind closed doors."
Further good news awaited the family when they learned Rick could receive a transplant and the hospital had found a donor with a perfect match. Rick was to undergo long-term testing and then admission into the University of Washington Medical Center for procedures.
After connecting on Facebook, Autumn and Shantel teamed up to make one more dream come true for the Jennings. After bringing Autumn to pick out a color, sink and edging style, the plan was set into motion: Granite Transformations of Spokane was to be installing new countertops, sink and faucet into the Jennings' home before they came back from treatment in Seattle, all under donation.
"Now, coming up on a year after being diagnosed, Rick has a year of treatment under his belt, is feeling better and has a new kitchen to use, and doesn't need to return to Seattle for further checkups or treatment until December 2019," concluded Jeffrey. "The light at the end of the tunnel will continue to shine bright for the Jennings family, and the light in the hearts of everyone who donated their time and materials with Granite Transformations will continue to give some hope to those in need."
