Grant Helps Colonial Airport Parking Fleet Go 100% Green
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has awarded Colonial Airport Parking an Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant (AFIG) for $66,000 that will cover 100% of the LPG (Liquid Propane Gas) conversions for four shuttle buses.
LESTER, Pa., Dec. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has awarded Colonial Airport Parking an Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant (AFIG) for $66,000 that will cover 100% of the LPG (Liquid Propane Gas) conversions for four shuttle buses. With the addition of the new shuttle buses, Colonial's fleet will be 100% propane powered by March 2019.
Colonial Airport Parking has actively pursued a path toward clean transportation since 2015 by starting the conversion of their fleet to LPG and partnering with ROUSH CleanTech, an alternative fuel vehicle technology firm. Colonial's fleet of propane powered Ford E-450 shuttle buses will emit 730,000 fewer pounds of carbon dioxide emissions over the lifetime of the vehicles, helping save more than 18,800 gasoline gallon equivalents per year and increasing operating efficiency for customers. Each of Colonial's shuttles accommodates up to 14 passengers and their luggage.
Propane autogas is a low-carbon fuel that reduces greenhouse gases by up to 25%, carbon monoxide by up to 60%, and nitrogen oxide by 20%, and is an approved alternative fuel under the Clean Air Act.

The AFIG grant was part of more than $2.6 million in funding awarded statewide for 16 clean energy vehicle projects that will help improve air quality, public health and quality of life throughout Pennsylvania. The projects are expected to reduce emissions by more than 2,800 tons and save more than one million gasoline gallon equivalents annually. The AFIG program is funded by an annual gross receipts tax on utilities.
