COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 3, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Enrollment for Great River Connections Academy (GRCA), a tuition-free, full-time public virtual school has officially opened for the 2020-21 school year for students in grades K-12. Free information sessions will be offered to help interested families learn more about virtual school and the benefits of an online learning environment.
"Just after this school year began, my son started experiencing fatigue and fevers causing him to miss a lot of time at his previous school. We needed to switch to a school that offered the flexibility for him to work at his own pace and take breaks whenever he needed," said Jody Lovitt of Sylvania whose son Josh is an eighth grader at Great River Connections Academy. "Since enrolling, his grades have improved, and the online platform enables him to manage his schedule and stay on top of his assignments. He's also better able to communicate with his teachers who help review his tests or assignments any time he needs."
Learning from home or anywhere there is an Internet connection, Great River Connections Academy students work closely with Ohio-certified teachers specially trained in online instruction. Teachers develop individualized learning plans that help to nurture each student's strengths while providing additional support in areas of need. The curriculum, from the nationally recognized, award-winning school Connections Academy® program, meets rigorous state education standards, and will include core online classes as well as engaging electives, honors and AP courses, and Career Technical Education (CTE) classes. At Great River Connections Academy, parents and caregivers are considered "Learning Coaches" as they play a very active role in their child's education and work closely with the teachers to monitor their student's participation and progress.
Students also benefit from real-time feedback and customized virtual schedules, ensuring each student can learn in a way that's best suited for them. Outside of schoolwork, students make friends and socialize through numerous online clubs and activities and during in-person field trips and school events.
"Online school serves a unique population of students, and I'm grateful parents and caretakers in Ohio have the opportunity to choose what learning environment works best for their children," said Jason Swinehart, Great River Connections Academy School Leader. "We are excited and proud to continue to serve our students and their families."
Great River Connections Academy is hosting free, in-person and online information sessions for interested families to learn more about virtual education and how teachers support the students. During the information sessions, families will also have an opportunity to learn about the online public school's curriculum and interact with school representatives and other parents.
