Greenberg Traurig Represents Iraqi Refugee in Successful Pro Bono Case
Lindsay N. Aherne and Heath J. Briggs of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP provided successful pro bono legal representation to an Iraqi man who was persecuted for his gender identity and sought refugee status in the United States.

Briggs of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP provided successful pro bono legal representation to an Iraqi man who was persecuted for his gender identity and sought refugee status in the United States. Aherne and Briggs worked for three years in coordination with the non-profit International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) to help the individual escape persecution and apply for relief.
Greenberg Traurig's work included obtaining evidence of the man's persecution and helping him navigate a pathway to the United States through legal counsel and advocacy. The individual is now safely in the United States.

Briggs, a shareholder in the firm's Denver office, is a chemical engineer, a registered patent attorney, and has more than 15 years of patent prosecution experience. Briggs has deep patent prosecution experience in the chemical area, especially in the areas of material science (e.g., metallurgy) and organic chemistry. He represents several Fortune 500 companies in this area, managing their worldwide patent portfolios. He also has multidisciplinary experience in the software and internet fields.
