NEW YORK, June 20, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Kate Kalmykov, co-chair of the Global Immigration and Compliance Practice of law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, was selected by Crain's New York Business to its "2023 Notable Women in Law" list.
Kalmykov is the fifth attorney at the firm to be selected to Crain's New York's Notable Leaders lists within the past year. Honorees are selected for their success and accomplishments during the prior 18 months and their ability to effect change in their career, according to the publication.
Kalmykov represents large corporate clients, as well as startups, nonprofits, universities, and hospitals on personnel transfers to the United States for both non-immigrant work visas and permanent residency. She also has deep experience working with real estate developers, private equity funds, and other organizations on virtually all aspects of the EB-5 immigrant investor program. Kalmykov has represented thousands of investors in obtaining their green cards through EB-5 regional center projects, as well as direct EB-5 investment opportunities. She represented and structured the largest EB-5 offering in the program's history and has over the course of her career structured over $12 billion in EB-5 deals. Recently, she structured about $500 million in EB-5 offerings for commercial real estate developers and defended numerous companies in I-9 audits.
As a thought leader on immigration issues, Kalmykov has spoken at the Women Influence & Power in Law Conference and other events. She has authored books, chapters, and articles for the American Bar Association, American Immigration Lawyers Association, ILW, and periodicals including New Jersey Lawyer, New York Law Journal, New Jersey Law Journal, USA Today, GlobeSt.com, and the Commercial Observer.
Kalmykov dedicates much of her time to pro bono efforts helping Ukrainians fleeing war, filing hundreds of applications for temporary protected status and humanitarian parole and organizing efforts to ship aid and medical equipment directly to Ukraine. Kalmykov serves both as president of the Board of Council of Jewish Émigré Community Organizations and as a member of the Ukraine Habitat Fund Board of Directors. She is actively involved with the National Association of Women Lawyers and internally with Greenberg Traurig's Women's Initiative.
"It is an honor and a joy to be recognized for doing the work I love best, both for my business clients and pro bono clients," Kalmykov said. "As someone with firsthand knowledge of the immigrant experience, it is gratifying to me to be able to help other individuals and families achieve the same dreams my family once had."
