Caroline J. Heller, a Litigation Practice shareholder and chair of the Global Pro Bono Program of Greenberg Traurig, LLP, received an American Bar Association (ABA) Presidential Committee appointment to serve as a member of its Death Penalty Representation Project. ABA President-Elect Deborah Enix-Ross made the appointment.

Heller, a Litigation Practice shareholder and chair of the Global Pro Bono Program of Greenberg Traurig, LLP, received an American Bar Association (ABA) Presidential Committee appointment to serve as a member of its Death Penalty Representation Project. ABA President-Elect Deborah Enix-Ross made the appointment.
The Death Penalty Representation Project is the ABA's "expert on issues related to the defense effort in death penalty cases. Since 1986 its singular focus has been to improve the quality and availability of legal representation for persons facing possible death sentences," according to the ABA.
Earlier this year, Heller was one of two 2022 recipients of the prestigious ABA Litigation Section John Minor Wisdom Award. The award honors those in the legal profession who have made outstanding contributions to ensure that the legal system is accessible and available to all. In July 2021, the ABA selected Greenberg Traurig as a recipient of its 2021 Exceptional Service Award for Death Penalty Representation.
"I am grateful and excited about being appointed to the Death Penalty Representation Project. This is an area of deep personal interest to me and of particular focus at Greenberg Traurig," Heller said. "People receiving death sentences are overwhelmingly from underrepresented, marginalized communities, and they are not entitled to properly funded death penalty certified legal representation. Working closely with the ABA and other organizations, I hope to contribute to the ABA's mission of improving legal representation to those facing possible death sentences."
Heller's practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and business disputes on a nationwide basis in the fields of professional liability, partnership disputes, securities litigation, and entertainment disputes. She has litigation experience in federal and state courts and arbitration experience before the American Arbitration Association. Heller's pro bono practice focuses on criminal justice, special education, immigration, and veterans.
