Mark Hichar, a shareholder in the Gaming Practice in the Boston office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, was elected to the board of the Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling. The Council is a private, nonprofit public health agency dedicated to reducing the social, financial, and emotional costs of gambling disorder. Its board includes former state lottery directors, casino and business executives, and mental health professionals, working together to bring the issue of gambling disorder to the attention of the public and policymakers and offering resources to people experiencing problems with gambling, the loved ones of those suffering with gambling disorder, and concerned members of the community.
Hichar has over 25 years of experience working for gaming operators, system suppliers, developers, and licensees. He has worked as both inside and outside counsel to gaming companies, and understands the need to provide clear, practical, and actionable advice. Hichar has particularly deep experience working with operators of casinos and lottery systems, and entities licensed by or contracted with domestic or foreign government gaming regulatory bodies. Working with clients of all sizes, Hichar has advised on a variety of cross-border transactions and lottery privatizations, and has structured joint ventures to do business in countries including China, Italy, Japan, Russia, South Africa, and Taiwan.
