L. Scott Oliver, a shareholder in global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Silicon Valley Office, has been recognized among 26 California attorneys on the Daily Journal’s list of Top Trade Secrets Lawyers. The award recognizes California attorneys on the cutting edge of trade secrets law.
In its profile of Oliver, Daily Journal noted: “For nearly three decades, Oliver has been a prominent name in high stakes patent, trade secret, copyright and trademark litigation, but he also represents prison inmates in pro bono civil rights cases.”
Oliver is a member of the firm’s Trade Secrets, Intellectual Property Litigation, and Intellectual Property & Technology Practices. He handles patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secret matters, blending creative legal strategies with comprehensive, digestible explanations of complex technology.
An experienced and highly technical litigator, Oliver has handled more than 150 matters and a dozen trials before both the International Trade Commission (ITC) and juries. He has more than 25 years of experience defending and advising companies across an array of industries, including wireless, software, semiconductor, and digital distribution.
In addition to his litigation experience, Oliver advises clients on strategically growing and managing their intellectual property portfolios, guiding young companies through patent strategy, and consulting handset manufacturers and patent pools on the licensing of 802.11, 4G, 3G and LTE patents.
Oliver is deeply involved in pro bono and community activities. Last year, he handled a Section 1984 civil rights case on behalf of an African American inmate who was beaten by the prison guards. The case drew widespread attention to the important and timely topic of abuse and racism in prisons. For his pro bono work, Oliver has been recognized by The Board of Governors of the State Bar of California, with the “Wiley W. Manuel Award for Pro Bono Legal Services.”
Oliver is also an active participant in trade groups such as the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He has chaired the association’s International Trade Commission Committee, its Amicus Committee, and its Ethics and Professionalism Committee.
