Greenfield Advisors Instrumental in $79 Million Verdict
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) February 18, 2015 -- Dr. John Kilpatrick of Greenfield Advisors was the key expert witness in a recent federal class action lawsuit in which plaintiffs scored a $79 million verdict. The case focused on how a Missouri power company improperly used electric utility easements to run telecommunications fiber optic cable on private property.
Previous trials in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri Central Division had certified the class action status and concluded that the power company and its subsidiaries owed money to the property owners. Greenfield Advisors was hired by the law firm Price Waicukauski & Riley, LLC, and its co-counsel, representing the property owners to determine the annual rent owed to the plaintiffs for telecommunications use of the easement in Chase Barfield, et al. v. Sho-Me Power Electric Cooperative, et al., 2:11-CV-4321.
Dr. Kilpatrick provided the legal team with data supporting an annual market rent for the corridor easement in question as of 2013. Based on his testimony, on February 6, the jury awarded $79 million to the class of about 3,500 property owners, who will each receive a share of the damages. The damages cover a 10-year period.
