The House Designers’ 4th Annual ENERGY STAR® Residential Design Competition Winners
Boston, MA (PRWEB) August 30, 2013 -- Winners of The House Designers and ENERGY STAR® 4th Annual Design Competition were recently announced in Boston, MA featuring America’s leading residential architects and designers.
“This competition was designed to encourage the leading residential designers and architects in the United States to design fresh, original, cutting-edge house plans in support of our partnership with ENERGY STAR®,” said Tammy Crosby, Chief Operating Officer of The House Designers, the leader in online residential pre-drawn house plans and exclusive provider of ENERGY STAR® approved home plans. “We want to encourage consumers and builders to implement sustainability and energy efficiency during the home design phase long before construction begins.”
The results of this year’s competition produced a new collection of sustainable home plans that mix high-tech and low-tech materials and systems with innovative architectural style and progressive floor plans to ensure years of easy, efficient living.
“We are very proud to be one of the leaders in energy-efficient home designs. Our exclusive collection of ENERGY STAR® approved construction drawings meet the strict guidelines of the EPA to ensure a home is built 20-30% more efficient than a standard home,” Crosby said.
All plans are available in The House Designers exclusive ENERGY STAR® Approved/Green House Plan collection and include ENERGY STAR’s® requirements for construction details such as tight construction and duct systems, properly installed insulation and high performance windows.
“Manufacturers like Therma-Tru®, Fypon® and Lumber Liquidators® who share The House Designers’ commitment to building energy preserving, sustainable homes will showcase their latest eco-friendly home products for the fourth year in a row,” Crosby said. “Their eco-friendly products will be specified directly on the construction blueprints making it easy for consumers to select green products to build a more efficient home.”
The first place winner in the Small/Efficient House Plan category was the Andrea Joyce House Plan, a 1,730 square foot one-story home with three bedrooms and two full baths. The designer’s goal was to create an energy-efficient, healthy, green home that addresses severe weather issues without sacrificing aesthetics and functionality. They achieved this by designing a tight building envelope comprised of ICFs; ENERGY STAR®-rated, insulated, low-E windows and doors; and a spray foam, sealed attic.
First place winner in the Mid-Size and Luxury House Plan Category was the Glenshaw House Plan, a two-story Craftsman house plan featuring 3,170 square feet of living space and a 399 square foot bonus space. The use of ENERGY STAR® rated appliances, sustainable building techniques and eco-friendly durable materials creates an extraordinary efficient home for its large footprint. Detailed construction drawings provide framing techniques, valuable eco-friendly options and materials from incredibly sustainable companies such as Fypon®, Lumber Liquidators® and Therma-Tru®.
The two-story French country Shiraz House Plan won first place in the Designer’s Choice category and features all the secondary living space on the lower level to take advantage of the partial underground temperature making it very efficient to cool and heat. This beautiful 2,765 square foot home combines Old World architecture with the latest in energy efficient materials and design techniques.
