LA MESA, Calif., May 28, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Grossmont Healthcare District invites health-related nonprofits to a free public grants workshop from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 18 at the Grossmont Healthcare District Conference Center, 9001 Wakarusa St., in La Mesa.
The Grossmont Healthcare District plans to award $2.4 million in grants and scholarships this fiscal year to East County organizations, $500,000 of which will be dedicated toward addressing the top five health needs affecting the region: behavioral and mental health; cardiovascular disease; type 2 diabetes; obesity; and cancer. No RSVP is required for the workshop.
Priority funding areas have emerged as the District's response to Health Needs Assessments for the San Diego East Region population, including those conducted by the County of San Diego, the Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties, and Sharp HealthCare.
"Nonprofits deliver invaluable services to East County families – from newborns to our seniors," said District Board President Randy Lenac. "And because of this incredibly important work, the Grossmont Healthcare District is here to support applicants and help reduce potential barriers for nonprofits that may be eligible for funding this year."
For the workshop, District officials will lead a Q&A session with nonprofits about the application process. The application period is open from July 1, 2019 through Dec. 30, 2019.
"A key piece of feedback from nonprofits after hosting last year's inaugural workshop – 'We want more support for inter-organization collaboration and partnership,' " said District CEO Barry Jantz. "We couldn't agree more. So this year, we're making those connections happen."
Since 1996, the District has awarded over $52 million in nonprofit grants and sponsorships. About half of the funds have gone to local nonprofit, health-related organizations while the other half has enhanced services at Sharp Grossmont Hospital with things such as state of the art medical equipment purchases.
